Methods: Results based on interviews with 1,437 U.S. adults conducted July 10-14, 2025. The margin of error is ±3.6 percentage points for the full sample. Respondents were asked to share the first word or phrase that came to mind when they thought of the Republican and Democratic parties, which were then sorted into broad categories, including negative and positive attributes. Categories that included fewer than 5% of responses were not labeled on the chart.
