Speaker stalemate

After 11 ballots, California Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy failed to reach the 218 votes needed to become speaker of the House of Representatives as members of his fractured caucus support other candidates and Democrats vote as a bloc for Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y.
